On the morning of December 7, 1941, the japanese launched a surprise air attack on the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. After just two hours of bombing, more than 2,400 Americans were dead, 21 ships ha either been sunk or damage, and more than 188 U.S. aircraft destroyed. The attack at Pearl Harbor so outraged Americans that the U.S. abbandoned its policy of isolationism and declared war on japan the following day.

Pearl Harbor December 7 , 1941 - 2011 70 th Anniversary

7:55 AM December 7 1941
Over three hundred aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy launch a pre-planned airstrike against the
US Pacific Fleet Base at Pearl Harbor.

Among the numerous vessels is the Pennsylvannia Class Battleship USS Arizona .

At 8:06 AM,
a single bomb from a Kate Class through Arizona's Deck armor and entered her magazine, 
the resulting explosion tore the Arizona apart sending her to the bottom of the harbor.

Of her crew of 1400

Only 335 survived, 
while 1,177 were killed .
